We sourced the greatest sporting families worldwide using Bleacher Report and The Definitive Dose. We collected data on each sportsperson in each sporting family for our ranking of sportspeople and combined the data for each factor for our ranking of sports families. Family members who are not involved in sports were excluded from our analysis. Sportspersons with limited data available who are no longer active or are deceased were removed from our analysis.
We then used Celebrity Net Worth to source the net worth of each sportsperson in each sporting family. Where unavailable, we used Idol Net Worth, Hockey Zone Plus, Net Worth Post, Wealthy Celebrity, BJJ Fanatics, Wikilogy, Celeb Married Life and Players Wiki. All figures were sourced in USD and converted to GBP and CAD using Google Finance on November 2 2023.
We sourced the total number of honours, Olympic medals, and major championship wins for each family member using Wikipedia. We excluded junior championships and managerial wins.
Using Google Keyword Planner, we sourced the total number of worldwide Google searches for each family between October 2022 and September 2023, searching the family name, e.g. “The Beckhams.” We then repeated this for each family member, searching just their name, e.g. “David Beckham”.
Finally, we ranked each family's overall performance on each factor by giving them a normalized score out of ten. We then averaged these scores to form a ranking out of ten for each member of each sporting family.
